Metro’s first Community Spirit Like No Other campaign asked Metro customers to donate a toonie at checkout from November to the end of 2020.

Metro Ontario committed to match donations up to $250,000, raising a total of $1.43 million for 146 Ontario foodbanks.

‘This is a time like no other and we all know that every community needs support. For Metro, it was important that we responded locally and that our stores could be a conduit for our customers to give back directly to their community. The success of this campaign happened because of the incredible generosity of Metro customers,” says Joe Fusco, senior VP of Metro.

“What made this campaign unique was that each of our Metro stores were able to work directly with their local food bank or multiple food banks to ensure the support went where it was most needed,” adds Fusco.

129 Metro stores in Ontario participated and there are plans for more fundraisers in 2021 as Metro Ontario is a long-time community partner with Feed Ontario.
