Metro, Loblaw extend increased pay for employees working through the pandemic

Metro and Lobalw are extending bonus pay programs for employees working throught the pandemic.

Metro announced on April 18 it would extend its $2/hour extra pay to employees of its food stores and distribution centres until May 30, 2020. The measure applies to approximately 50,000 people.

“The particular circumstances that led us to make this decision have not changed and we are therefore maintaining this temporary measure," says Eric La Flèche, president and CEO.

"Our teams continue to do a remarkable job, and thanks to their efforts, we are able to meet the needs of our customers," he adds.

A CTV news story also notes that Loblaw has also decided to increase compensation for grocery store and distrbution centre employees, citing a Canadian Press report from April 18.
