A new Metro store has opened at Bathurst St. and Steeles Ave. in the city of North York in the Greater Toronto Area.
Grocery Business was on hand for the opening. The new store, officially named Metro Bathurst & Steeles, features cut fruit prepared on-site daily, a wide selection of Fresh2Go ready-made meals, more than 100 varieties of imported and domestic cheeses, bread baked daily on premises, and expanded ethnic and Kosher sections.
To emphasize its commitment to the community, Metro presented a $1,000 cheque to Chasdei Khaduri Jewish Food Bank, which works to reduce food insecurity in North York.
The store décor pays homage to the local area, featuring photos of landmarks including the Bathurst Clark Resource Library, the John Arnold House and the Thornhill Village Library.
In the days following the opening, the store hosted live events including a floral demonstration and a demonstration of a Kosher-friendly brunch recipe for Bagel and Lox Nachos.
“We are excited to be joining Willowdale with our newest Metro location, bringing more than 120 jobs to the neighbourhood. It is important to us that our store integrates with the community, so we’ve tailored our product offering and store décor to the neighbourhood,” says Joe Fusco, senior vice president, Metro.
