Metro Inc. is testing food delivery in downtown Montreal in partnership with Uber Eats.
As reported in IGD Retail Analysis, Metro has broadened its meal solutions business by investing in meal kits. It took a majority interest in Montreal-based Miss Fresh last year. In addition to offering a subscription service, Metro has made meal kits available in selected stores. Retail Analysis says this has helped Metro drive store traffic and build the profile of the Miss Fresh platform.
“Metro has established a strong food-to-go program within the business over several years. It has become an area of strength for the retailer, with its ‘Wow’ innovation stores expanding the offer into a range of cuisines, including artisanal flatbreads and stir fry,” Retail Analysis reports. “The partnership with Uber Eats will see Metro compete more directly with established foodservice chains, reflecting the larger food market that many retailers are now competing within.”
