Toronto startup Apniroots hopes to leverage the growing online grocery trend by offering online ordering and delivery of South Asian grocery items.
The Hindustan Times describes Apniroots as the first end-to-end platform of its kind in Canada with an extensive inventory. Staple items include rice, dals, pickles and ready-to-eat South Indian meals like masala dosas.
Apniroots is focused on the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding region. The Indo-Canadian population in Canada is nearly 1.8 million, of which two-thirds live in Ontario. Co-founder Gurmeet Singh (pictured) believes the market is underserved, despite growing demand.
Canada’s tough winters may help too, Singh says. “We have four months when other businesses slow down: ours will peak.”
