PepsiCo is acquiring the baked fruit and vegetable snack maker Bare Foods, reflecting increasing consumer demand for healthier, less processed food.
The company has seen increasingly strong sales from its more health-conscious products over the last several years, and has itself been adding more natural, organic products to its lineup.
At least half of the growing demand for healthier foods is currently being supplied by small companies. Large players including PepsiCo, Hershey and Campbell Soup have responded to the challenge by acquiring smaller, health oriented suppliers as a way of expanding their footprint in the market.
PepsiCo has not released financial details about the acquisition.
