The North American produce industry is sounding warning bells over pallet shortages.

The impacts of the situation include the availability of produce to consumers.

Many things are contributing to the issue, including efforts of wholesalers, distributors and retailers, availability of lumber, increasing price of lumber and lack of available trucks for relocation.

The lack of pallets adds stress to the supply chain, which industry representatives say is already facing significant challenges.

Industry leaders are calling for temporary modifications to pallet requirements, that do not jeopardize safety, until the shortage is resolved.
