Several grocery retailers in B.C. were among the Ipsos “Most Loved Brands” study in 2020, including Save-On-Foods being named the top brand and London Drugs coming in fourth in the list of 35 brands.
Others on the list included Pharmasave at 19 and Thrifty Foods at 24.
Save-On-Foods, a recurring favourite on the list, was new in the number one spot. The grocer was ranked fourth in 2019.
Michael Rodenburgh, executive vice president for Western Canada at Ipsos, says Save-On-Foods’ ranking is due in part to the company’s delivery service.
“Brands that make fairly significant investments in changing their business in a meaningful way, we frequently see that reflected in a growth in their Brand Love.”
London Drugs slipped in the ranking from two to four despite having a “very successful business model,” says Rodenburgh, adding that the chain is contending with digital retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, noting that they present “some pretty significant competitive pressures on various categories that London Drugs carries in its stores.”
Darrell Jones, president of Save-On-Foods, says he’s “very proud of the work the team does to support our customers, our communities and each other,” and is honoured to be ranked as B.C.’s Most Loved Brand for 2020.
The annual Most Loved Brands study is conducted by Ipsos and ranks B.C.-based brands using an Ipsos model that scores each brand based on respondent ratings for relevance and brand closeness.
