Save-On-Foods is gearing up for the Friday, May 17 opening of its new location in Medicine Hat, Alta.
The new location will feature made-in-store meals, a mix and match wing bar and fresh sushi, an in-store pharmacy and an assortment of local products. It will also offer online shopping pickup.
The store was originally scheduled to open last fall, but in August the opening was delayed because of problems with the electrical system at the new location, a former Walmart.
In recent weeks, Grocery Business has covered a number of Save-On-Foods openings in western Canada, including in Calgary and Victoria, B.C. The chain operates more than 160 locations in Western Canada and has aggressive expansion plans for cities such as Calgary, where it plans to open 25 to 30 stores. In 2016, the company said it was planning to open more than 50 new stores in the following three to five years.
