ocado acquisitions robotics automation

British online grocer and Sobeys Canadian ecommerce partner has acquired two North American robotics startups the company says will accelerate picking and packing of groceries.

The acquisitions include San Francisco-based Kindred Systems, purchased for $262 million and Las Vegas-based Haddington Dynamics for $25 million.

Ocado chief executive Tim Steiner said in a statement that the acquisitions will allow the company to “accelerate delivery, innovate more, and grow faster.”

Kindred Systems specializes in building robots that pick and pack online orders, and Haddington Dynamics creates robotic arms.
