Earlier this month Sobeys announced a “first-of-its-kind partnership” with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) to support all banner teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, TFC, Toronto Argos, Toronto Marlies and Raptors 905.
Over the next few months Sobeys & MLSE will roll out new opportunities to Canadian consumers on social media and in Sobeys retail locations.
In the Game Day Eats, Ultimate Suite Contest, fans who share their game day meals will be entered in a contest to watch a Toronto Maple Leafs game from their own personalized suite at the Scotiabank Arena. In January, Sobeys will run a contest for a chance to watch a Toronto Raptors game.
“To kick off this exciting partnership, Sobeys is bridging the powerful connection between food and sports, and highlighting the significance of fans' favourite meals in their game day rituals,” Sobeys said in announcing the partnership. “Whether it’s a go-to dinner before watching the hockey game or a superstitious snack, we all have our rituals and wouldn’t enjoy the game any other way.”
To celebrate the announcement, Sobeys president and CEO Michael Medline and MLSE president and CEO Michael Friisdahl were joined by Toronto Maple Leafs alumni Darcy Tucker and Darryl Sittler, as well as Toronto Raptors alumnus Jerome “Junkyard Dog” Williams.
