Niki Scott, the manager of the Sobeys store in Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador, has won two Food Marketing Institute (FMI) annual Store Manager Awards.
Scott was the winner in the International category and also took home the People’s Pick Award.
The FMI web page describing how Scott won her nomination in the International category refers to her work as a Sobeys learning store trainer for store manager trainees, her mentoring skills, a hands-on approach to communicating with employees and her ability to step back and let team members take the lead.
Scott’s store has a “punch” rate – the rate at which employees punch in late for their shifts – of under five per cent. The store is a leader in community involvement, hosting seniors’ teas, cooking classes for high school students, and fundraising events for charities including support for families dealing with pediatric cancer.
Scott also achieved a Business Process Scoreboard score of 91.7 per cent for in-store customer experience with ideas like “Fish n’ Brew Friday,” produce trays featuring berries and a Christmas cake holiday promotion.
The award winners were announced at the FMI Future Leaders eXperience event, which was held this year in St. Louis, Missouri, May 14-16. Each award winner received a $1,000 prize and a crystal award.
