Sobeys surprised healthcare workers who are moms on Mother’s Day by providing flower bouquets at hospitals in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Employees of Sobeys and Foodland stores distributed the bouquets to moms at SickKids, Belleville General Hospital and Winchester District Memorial Hospital in Ontario and IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Wearing PPE equipment, staff had special buckets of flowers outside of the hospitals’ main entrance where frontline healthcare workers could pick up a bouquet.
Sobeys and Foodland teams say it was their way of wishing staff a “Happy Mother’s Day” and showing appreciation for their efforts during the pandemic.
“Hospital teams need our help more than ever,” says Deneth Kahadawala, Sobeys store operator. “They do it all with an unwavering dedication, sense of compassion and resilience that inspires the entire country.
“We wanted to surprise frontline healthcare workers at SickKids this Mother’s Day with 150 bouquets filled with roses. This initiative is very near and dear to my heart. One of my family members spent some time in SickKids and the hospital staff were incredible. We have since raised funds through barbeques and other initiatives, and our team can’t wait to show our support with this amazing Mother’s Day act of kindness. We truly are One Big Family and family has never been more important than it is right now.”
