Sobeys celebrated the opening of its freshly renovated store in Orangeville, Ont. on November 5.
The renovated location features a new store design and décor, and eco-friendly features such as energy-efficient refrigeration cases and coolers. The store also includes a new health and wellness department, Rachelle Bery. Sobeys began the expansion of its wellness offerings through Rachelle Bery boutiques in 2020, launching the first one at a Sobeys in St. Catherines, Ont. The Orangeville boutique marks the company's 11th location outside of Québec.
A Sobeys spokesperson adds that the "Rachelle Bery expansion has been well-received by our customers who love the breadth of health and wellness products they offer and we have exciting plans ahead to continue expanding the offering to more stores outside of Quebec."
Another key component of the design is the vertical farming area from Infarm, which offers customers a variety of microgreens and fresh herbs grown in-store. Sobeys launched a partnership with Infarm in 2020 and earlier this year, it expanded the partnership to accelerate the availability and distribution of fresh produce to an additional four of Canada's 10 provinces by 2023.
At the time of the announcement of the expanded partnership in July 2021, Niluka Kottegoda, vice president of customer experience for Sobeys, said "the expansion of our exclusive partnership with Infarm demonstrates our commitment to delivering that in a technologically advanced and sustainable way. Reflecting on the current offer and expansion plan, she said, "We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our customers and our store teams about the current Infarm product grown in our stores. We are thrilled to expand into the Infarm Growing Centres as they allow us to exponentially offer these great local products to a multitude of communities across Canada all year-round."
