A 16 year old employee of the Foodland store in Lakeview, ON, is being described as a hero after pulling an 18 year old man from the waters of the Otonabee River.
Ryan McIlwain was on his lunch break when he heard cries for help from the river. When he spotted a man in the water, he dove in, swam about 25 metres to reach the man and pulled him to shore. A passerby also helped.
His store manager, Ian Bletsoe, hailed McIlwain as a hero, and McIlwain said that he’s still trying to process what happened. “[I] haven’t slept in a few days, so it’s something.”
