A new supermarket featuring only start-up brands and companies opens this month in Berlin, Germany.

KaDeTe – the name comes from the German for “trial department store” – will give new brands and companies a place to go to market without being squeezed out by established players.

The concept was pioneered by two entrepreneurs, who say their struggles to get their organic energy drink into stores and bars gave them the idea for KaDeTe.

The concept will also give start-ups the opportunity to conduct market research and even get a shot at being picked up by buyers or investors.

Some 200 food manufacturers have applied for a location.
