Vince’s has partnered with Green Circle Ideas to recover and sustainably dispose of used single-use personal protective equipment (PPE).
As most Canadians are wearing PPE to the grocery store due to the pandemic, the amount of discarded PPE in parking lots, store entrances and outdoor spaces has increased.
“By supplying our staff with the necessary PPE, and carefully following health department protocols, we have been doing our part to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 to both our customers and staff,” says Giancarlo Trimarchi, partner at Vince’s. “That being said, we are pleased to be taking a positive step in reducing the environmental impact of these important safeguards.”
Globally, 129 billion disposable face masks have been thrown away, and 65 billion gloves.
Vince’s new program will recover masks, gloves, face shields, eye protection, capes, gowns, disinfectant wipes and single use towels.
In stores, customers will see clearly marked boxes to dispose of PPE, and Vince’s will ship large amounts to Green Circle Ideas. Then the PPE will be safely disposed of.
