General merchants Walmart and Costco increased their share of the food market in Canada in 2017 at the expense of traditional grocery retailers like Sobeys, Metro and Loblaw, according to a recent report from Kevin Grier Analysis and Consulting. Quoted in the Financial Post, the report also notes that in 2017, retail food sales in Canada rose four per cent to $98 B.
