Walmart Canada eyes cannabis sales

Walmart Canada has no immediate plans to get into the cannabis business, but the company does say it’s looking at the options.

Reuters says the company is the first major retailer in Canada to indicate that it might join the country’s fast-growing trade in cannabis products. Big names south of the border, like Coca-Cola and Constellation Brands (makers of Corona beer) have already moved to get into this emerging sector in a big way.

“Walmart Canada has done some preliminary fact-finding on this issue, but we do not have plans to carry CBD products at this time,” Walmart spokeswoman Diane Medeiros told Reuters.

Canada will become the first major economy to legalize recreational marijuana next week, on October 17.
