Walmart plans to share more data with suppliers to speed up the replenishing of out-of-stock items, as it competes with rivals like

The company says its On Shelf Customer Availability (OSCA) data, up to now accessible only internally, will be shared at its Supplier Growth Forum at Walmart headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, later this month.

"We have reduced inventory in stores in order to have the right amount of stock and have made significant progress in the past few years," Steve Bratspies, chief merchandising officer at Walmart U.S., told Reuters. "We want to focus on improving that even more."

The retailer is also tightening delivery deadlines to improve in-store product availability. It will now require suppliers to deliver full orders within a specified delivery window 85% of the time or face a fine of 3% of the cost of goods.

For smaller suppliers the threshold will move to 50%, up from 33%. The change will take effect in April.
