Loblaw Companies Limited has appointed Per Bank as president and CEO. He will join the company by the first quarter of 2024. He succeeds Galen Weston who will remain as chair of the Board of Directors of Loblaw. The change was made in anticipation of the retirement of Robert Sawyer, chief operating officer, who plans to retire at the end of 2023.
Bank is a 30-year career retailer with extensive expertise in retail operations and supply chain. He is the outgoing chief executive officer of Salling Group A/S, the largest retailer in Denmark, with 1,700 multi-banner supermarkets across three countries, supported by strong e-commerce, loyalty, and private-brand programs, and having one of Denmark’s largest private-sector workforces.
In addition to remaining chair of the Loblaw Board of Directors, Weston will also retain his role as chair of the Board of Directors and CEO of parent company George Weston Limited.
