Denis Gendron, president of United Grocers Inc. (UGI), plans to retire effective June 30, 2020.

He has served as president for nine years. UGI board members have established a selection committee and started the recruitment process for his replacement.

Gendron began his career in the retail industry at the age of 15 as a part time employee. Throughout his career, he worked for several large retailers, including Steinberg, IGA Quebec, Loblaws, Rona, Metro, Imperial Tobacco and Pareto.

“I was fortunate enough to work with different organizations and met people who helped me learn the business. While I’m retiring as president of UGI, I plan to stay close to the industry, but in a totally different role. I also plan to enjoy spending more time with my wife, children and grandchildren.”

Michael Forgione, COO of Longo Brothers Fruit Markets and chairman of UGI, says Gendron has “effectively worked with the team to grow UGI members and was committed to working in the best interest of all partners.”
