Grocery retail industry veteran Jim Grandy has passed away. He spent his entire 64-year career in grocery and began at the age of 15, working part time at a Dominion store in Toronto.

During his extensive career, he worked in grocery and CP, for several companies, among them, Kraft Foods, William Dunne & Associates, Loblaws, Clouston Foods, Fisher Products International and Aqua Star. After he retired, he helped his son Glenn build Green Ocean Seafood, a company that was acquired by Tree of Life Canada in 2017.

Mid-way through his career, Grandy operated his own grocery stores.

Son Glenn Grandy, senior director of seafood at Tree of Life, says one of his father’s career highlights was a one-on-one meeting with W. Galen Weston. “Having the opportunity to reflect on the grocery industry with Mr. Weston was something Jim cherished.”

He says that Grandy will be remembered as “an old school salesman who forged long lasting friendships within the grocery industry.”
