After a singular 40-year career in the grocery industry, Mary Dalimonte, senior VP of merchandising and commercial programs, has announced her retirement from Sobeys. Dalimonte began her career working at store level, eventually progressing through increasingly senior roles at Loblaw and Sobeys where she created some of the most innovative store concepts in North America, including the ground-breaking Urban Fresh format.
An award-winning and active member of the grocery community, Dalimonte serves on many volunteer boards, including Grocery Business’s Editorial Advisory Board and is well-known for her work mentoring the next generation of industry leaders. In their announcement Sobeys celebrated Dalimonte’s outstanding career saying, “Mary embodies what it means to be a member of the Sobeys family. She has dedicated her career to mentoring and nurturing her peers and celebrating their success. Her professional legacy will be felt amongst the many team members who have benefitted from her mentorship”.
In conversation with Grocery Business, Dalimonte said, “the past 40 years have been an incredible experience and I look forward to another incredible next chapter”. And, if as they say, “the past is prologue”, Mary has a ground-breaking act two to look forward to.
