Metro’s Carmen Fortino and Walmart Canada’s Nabeela Ixtabalan, are among 50 Canadian executives who have been recognized in the Report on Business magazine’s Best Executive Awards.

Fortino is executive vice president, Ontario division head, national supply chain for Metro Inc. and Ixtabalan is executive vice president of people and corporate affairs (chief people officer) for Walmart Canada.

In addition to retailers, Stephen Burmaster, vice president of sales for non-alcoholic company Partake Brewing and a supplier to the grocery sector, was also recognized among the Best Executives.

The 2022 winners represent what Report on Business recognizes as the best of Canadian leadership in five functional areas: Finance; Human Resources; Operations; Sales and Marketing; and Technology.

“As corporate Canada continues to adjust to the new realities of the 21st century, some things remain true—namely, the importance of bold leadership,” says Dawn Calleja, editor, Report on Business magazine. “The 50 winners of the 2022 Best Executive Awards embody that quality and more as they steer their respective teams through the pandemic and a changing economy, all while keeping an eye on the well-being of their teams and overall companies.”

This is the third annual Best Executive Awards, which celebrates excellence among non-CEO leaders at the SVP, EVP and C-suite levels.
