Sobeys, CPG senior management among Best Executives 2021

Management executives from Sobeys Inc., Kraft Heinz Canada, Proctor & Gamble and Summer Fresh Salads are among a list of the Globe and Mail’s Best Executives 2021.

The annual honour roll recognizes top people in the C-suite or at the senior and executive vice president levels.

Grocery industry leaders:

  • Michael Vels, chief financial officer, Empire Company and Sobeys Inc. According to the Globe and Mail story, Vels helped revive operations and spearheaded Project Sunrise, a three-year plan to strengthen Empire’s in-house brands that surpassed initial financial targets by $50 million.
  • Av Maharaj, chief administration officer and vice president, legal, corporate affairs and HR, Kraft Heinz Canada. During the pandemic, he increased PPE and wellness resources for field workers and hosted lunch-with-leadership calls for employees and their families, and championed the creation of “Work Like an Owner” program that allows employees to work from wherever they like as long as they meet their objectives.
  • Gilles Hamel, chief financial officer, Summer Fresh Salads. Hamel implemented a “no worker left behind” strategy during the pandemic and was charged with the rollout of a new ERP system.
  • Lisa Reid, country leader, P&G Beauty Canada, Procter & Gamble. She drives brand growth for products and recent successes include Pantene’s #HairHasNoGender project and a “MyHairMyStory campaign that celebrated eight Canadian black women and their hair journeys.
