Michael Forgione has been named president of United Grocers Inc. (UGI), effective June 29, 2020. He succeeds Denis Gendron, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
Jamie Nelson, executive vice president of Save-On-Foods and the newly appointed chairman of the UGI Board, confirmed the nomination.
Forgione is a well-known industry member whose most recent role was COO of Longo Brothers Fruit Markets, where he was responsible for operations, merchandising, supply chain, e-commerce and continuous improvement. He has been a member of the UGI board for three years, with his latest role being acting board chair, a role that has now been filled by Jamie Nelson of Save-On-Foods.
Forgione is also a board member of the Ted Rogers School of Business at Ryerson University and is an active member of the Retail Council of Canada.
Nelson, who has more than 40 years of grocery retail experience, is also now part of the UGI executive committee and will serve on the committee for three years.
