Horacio (Haio) Barbeito, president and CEO of Walmart Canada, has announced his plan to leave Walmart Canada for an opportunity outside of the company.
Barbeito has been with Walmart for 26 years and has served as president of Walmart Canada for close to three years, having joined the Canadian business in 2019. He led the company through the pandemic and guided steady growth through investments in stores, supply chain, ecommerce and health and wellness initiatives.
“I’ve been privileged to work in five different countries during 26 years with Walmart and I’ve had the honor to serve as CEO in three markets for over 10 years. My time at Walmart has given me a unique opportunity to meet, serve and work with an amazing and diverse group of customers and associates – and to build lasting memories and friendships. I couldn’t have done all this without the unconditional support of my family, my wife and our four children. We will always be a Walmart family.”
With his departure, JP Suarez, executive vice president, chief administration officer and regional CEO for Walmart International, will lead Walmart Canada on an interim basis. Walmart says it will announce a new CEO in the near future.
