The Iacobelli Family of Leamington, Ont., Primo and Unico Foods were the anchor donors who provided $1 million to a newly renovated hospice in Toronto for the homeless community.
With donor support, the Journey Home Hospice was able to expand from four to ten beds, equivalent to supporting 100 homeless people needing palliative care per year.
In May 2020, a team of donors, designers, artists and more came together to bring their vision to life. The Iacobelli Family and Primo and Unico Foods provided a $1 million anchor donation, while designers and builders worked on the renovation, hospice staff ensured the transition was seamless for patients, and Ontario artists contributed their work so the space would feel like a home.
“This is a tremendous effort and will enable us to more than double our previous capacity. And it would not be possible without the many people who safely came together to make this happen amid the pandemic,” said Nancy Lefebre, Executive Director, Saint Elizabeth Foundation. “When they heard this expansion was at risk of delay because of COVID-19, our donors, designers, architects and volunteers went above and beyond to ensure the project wouldn’t stall. Their tremendous work will make a difference in the lives of many people for years to come.”
