Save-on-Foods first grocery retailer to support North American Indigenous foods campaign

Save-On-Foods has become the first grocery retailer to execute a retail promotion of Indigenous food manufacturers from Canada and the U.S.

In partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), select Save-On-Foods locations in Vancouver launched the retail promotion to commemorate First Nations and Native American small food manufacturers. The promotion, which runs June 17 to 26, was timed to commemorate National Indigenous History month in June.

“We hope the leadership shown by Save-On-Foods to dive into this project will inspire other retailers to work with these companies, many of which are small, to showcase Indigenous packaged goods as well as fresh meats and produce,” says Maria Arbulu, senior agricultural marketing specialist with the USDA, Foreign Agricultural Service/U.S. Consulate.

Participating companies from Canada and the U.S.

  • Spirit Bear Coffee (Canada)
  • Sriracha Revolver Hot Sauce (Canada)
  • Mitsoh – Pemmican Strips, Jerky Products (Canada)
  • Catspring Yaupon, tesas (U.S.)
  • Navajo Mike’s – BBQ Sauces & Hot Sauces (U.S.)
  • Red Lake Nation – Wild Rice (U.S.)
