Some grocery stores will bring back pandemic pay

Longo’s and Empire Co., owner of Sobeys, Foodland and FreshCo, will be bringing back a temporary wage increase for its frontline workers.

Longo’s announced a $2 per hour increase for permanent employees that will last as long as Ontario is in a stay-at-home order, which is at least 28 days.

“This latest stay-at-home order will hit everyone a little harder,” says Longo’s president and chief executive officer Anthony Longo. “But we know our team members will continue to rise to the challenge as essential workers during this pandemic.”

Longo’s will also be offering paid days off for self-isolation.

Empire Co. is temporarily bringing back its lockdown bonus for frontline workers in Ontario and some locations in Quebec.
