Bakery is a commonly shopped area, but ongoing economic pressures combined with a focus on healthy living are impacting purchasing decisions in the bakery department.

Over the last two years, bakery products have seen double-digit growth rates, but sales are expected to decline while volumes will grow, according to Farm Credit Canada and the 2024 Food and Beverage Report. It forecasts that nominal sales will decline 3.4 per cent in 2024 but volumes will grow 4.3 per cent.
