Sungiven Foods opened its South Burnaby store on January 8, 2022. A specialty grocery chain with more than 100 stores across the globe, Sungiven Foods’ niche is healthy daily meals featuring foods that are, natural, and less processed with fewer additives.
Sungiven Foods Canada is headquartered in Burnaby and operates stores in Burnaby, Richmond, and White Rock, B.C.
Originally launched in China, Sungiven Foods has grown rapidly over the past eight years expanding from a single store to more than 100 stores globally. Although Sungiven was founded in China, the company’s founder Kathy Su says the concept was inspired by the West Coast and was originally developed in Vancouver. Indeed, the growing chain has been called the “Trader Joe’s of Asian groceries.”
When Sungiven Foods announced its expansion into Canada in 2019, Terence Fong, senior vice president of Sungiven Foods Canada, said at that time that Sungiven planned to add ten to 15 stores in the next few years and that the company believed there was room to grow in Canada despite the presence of several major and established grocery brands.
