Walmart Canada has wrapped up its most successful Fight Hunger. Spark Change fundraiser and has donated a record $6.6 million to Food Banks Canada.

With support of its customers and participating suppliers, the donation is equivalent to 13 million meals for Canadians in need.

Canadians recognized the need for support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Walmart Canada matched donations up to $820,000 and added additional $180,000 bringing the total corporate donation to $1 million.

“The impact on food banks across the country this past year has been unprecedented,” says Chris Hatch, chief executive officer of Food Banks Canada. “Without deeply committed partners like Walmart Canada, we wouldn’t be able to provide relief to Canadians to the level we do.”

Canadians were able to contribute by adding a cash donation to their purchases, donating a non-perishable food item or supporting participating brands, including Mars Canada, Kraft Heinz, Kellogg’s, Conagra, Maple Leaf, General Mills, Dare, Pepsi, Mondelez, Ferrero, Coca Cola, Unilever and Grupo Bimbo.
