Walmart is ramping up its online marketplace by partnering with Shopify and take a bigger share of the fast-growing online shopping segment.
Grocery Business reached out to Walmart Canada, which confirmed that it is also working to partner with Shopify for the Canadian company’s online marketplace. Adam Grachnik, director of corporate affairs for Walmart Canada, says “we anticipate sharing the news with our customers soon.”
Walmart Marketplace will add 1,200 Shopify sellers this year, according to news reports from BNN Bloomberg and the Financial Post.
The partnership is Walmart’s latest attempt to expand the scale and profitability of its multi-billion e-commerce business, which, according to a Financial Post article, is gaining ground on market leader Amazon.com.
