Walmart to cut jobs at U.S. HQ, relocate remote workers, including in Toronto

Walmart plans to cut hundreds of jobs at its corporate headquarters in the U.S. and relocate a majority of its U.S. and Canada-based remote workforce to three offices, according to a Wall Street Journal Report.

However a Walmart Canada source said in a Toronto Star story that affected employees aren’t connected to the company’s headquarters in Mississauga.  Instead, the company is only closing its global tech hub in Toronto — one of more than a dozen Walmart tech hubs around the world, aimed at finding ways to use technology to improve customer experience and supply chains. The Toronto Star story notes the Toronto tech hub closing is part of a plan to improve collaboration among staff.

“We are asking the majority of associates working remotely, and the majority of associates within our offices in Dallas, Atlanta, and our Toronto Global Tech office, to relocate,” Donna Morris, Walmart’s chief people officer wrote in a memo to its U.S. campus associates on Tuesday.
