Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons and Ahold-Delhazie have considered acquiring food delivery service GrubHub, according to a report in the New York Post, which cited supply-chain consultant Brittain Ladd.
“I have spoken with executives from each company (especially Walmart) and there is interest in acquiring Grubhub,” Ladd told the New York Post. In addition to delivering food and groceries, he believes that Grubhub will provide value to Walmart by accelerating its entry into “dark kitchens,” which are kitchens that prepare food deliveries without a retail presence.
