London Drug stores across Western Canada were shut down on Sunday April 28 following a cybersecurity attack. According to media reports, the network crashed on Sunday morning, Pacific time and on Monday, April 29, London Drugs confirmed via social media that it “was a victim of a cybersecurity incident.”
The company stated “out of an abundance of caution, London Drugs is temporarily closing stores across Western Canada until further notice. Upon discovering the incident, London Drugs immediately undertook counter measures to protect its network and data, including retaining leading third-party cybersecurity experts to assist with containment, remediation and to conduct a forensic investigation.”
Locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba were shut down on Sunday April 28 except for one pharmacy in Alberta that was open for emergencies.
The retailer confirmed the news in a post on X. London Drugs operates nearly 80 stores in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with more than 50 of them located in B.C.
The company has stated it does not believe customer or employee data has been impacted.
As of Monday, April 29, the stores were still closed.
