Oppy partners with DEEP for groundbreaking greenhouse project

Oppy has announced a partnership with DEEP Earth Energy Production Corp. to establish an integrated greenhouse alongside Canada’s first geothermal power facility.

DEEP is gearing up to develop Canada’s inaugural geothermal power facility near Saskatchewan’s U.S. border. It is strategically located for easy access to distribution routes like the CanAm and Trans-Canada Highways, according to a statement. The goal involves leveraging geothermal resources for clean energy production.

“We are looking forward to beginning the construction of this project after years of meticulous planning, once financing is secured. Our future collaboration with Oppy will mark a crucial step toward creating a sustainable future with this plant, marking an impact not only in power generation but in agriculture too,” says Kirsten Marcia, founder, president and CEO of DEEP.

DEEP’s facility will harness the Earth’s natural heat reservoirs for low-emission power generation, supporting its operations alongside an advanced greenhouse. The joint initiative with Oppy seeks to establish a groundbreaking model of sustainable agriculture, using geothermal energy, heat and CO2 for year-round cultivation.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with DEEP,” says Oppy’s category director of greenhouse Kevin Batt. “By integrating a greenhouse into their facility, we’re not only promoting local Canadian produce but also reducing environmental impact and food miles. This partnership symbolizes the future of farming, aligning with Oppy’s commitment to innovative practices.”.
