Toonies for Tummies: Grocery leaders host kids’ breakfast in B.C. school

Forty volunteers from the Toonies for Tummies sponsor and retailer community came together for a breakfast event at Fraser Valley Middle School in New Westminster, B.C.

The gathering, held on Jan. 24, was part of a broader initiative led by The Grocery Foundation. It saw members from popular retail chains such as Save-On-Foods, Buy-Low, and Nester’s Market in attendance.

The event marked a significant moment in this year’s Toonies for Tummies campaign, which sees participation from at least 1,500 stores. Breakfast items were served at the Fraser Valley Middle School event, and surplus perishable items were shared with two nearby neighbourhood schools.

The Toonies for Tummies initiative assists over 3,000 programs across Western Canada, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada. This year, the campaign is supported by 43 sponsors. Shoppers are encouraged to participate by making a $2 donation during the campaign windows at participating retailers.
