Georgia Main Food Group opens first Asian grocery store Meiga Supermarket: Shop Walk

Georgia Main Food debuted its first Asian grocery store on February 3, 2024.

Meiga Supermarket in Port Moody, B.C. features an open kitchen with ready-to-serve foods such as take-away dim sum, congees, and a comprehensive BBQ menu. The store will also offer feature cold drinks like brown sugar milk tea and passionfruit green tea.

“With deep, local, and trusted roots going back 120 years, we are set to redefine the Asian grocery store experience with Meiga Supermarket,” said Gary Sorenson, COO, Georgia Main Food Group. “Meiga offers quality Asian products in an atmosphere of discovery where new, authentic, and exclusively sourced products are part of our customers’ everyday shopping. Meiga’s commitment to freshness is found in our products and it’s also embedded in our attitude, with a fresh view on what the Asian supermarket experience.”

The company says it will use the new Port Moody store as a testing ground for the concept as it plans an expansion to more locations in the next few years.

Georgia Main operates seven Fresh St. Market stores and 22 IGA stores in B.C.
