Costco Wholesale Corp. March sales for five weeks ending April 7 2024 were $23.48 billion, an increase of 9.4 per cent from $21.46 million in the same period last year. Comparable sales for Canada were 8.9 per cent, while e-commerce sales for the retailer jumped 28.3 per cent.
Costco reported that its March sales numbers were positively affected by the Easter holiday falling in the month, resulting in around a 0.5 per cent boost.
Costco also announced an increase in its quarterly dividend to $1.16 from $1.02 a share.
Costco highlighted merchandising comparable sales performance for the company overall of different categories and said food and sundries sales were mid to high single digits with cooler sundries and foods being the strongest departments. Fresh food sales were up mid to high single digits and better performing departments included bakery and meat.
