Grocery Business had the opportunity to visit grocery retailers in Barcelona, Spain and toured a Mercadona store. Mercadona is considered the largest grocer in Spain and saw the highest growth in share of spend in 2023 of +0.6% to reach 26.2% according to Kantar. The retailer operates more than 1,600 stores in the country. Wide aisles with lots of open space creates an overall clean and crisp environment. The store features a wide selection of fresh meats and seafood with creative and inviting design elements for both departments.
