Kruger Big Assist awards $75K to enhance youth hockey access

Kruger Products has unveiled this year’s Kruger Big Assist program recipients.

Five minor hockey associations have been recognized as regional winners for making hockey more accessible to Canadian youth. Each regional winner will be granted a $25,000 donation to support player enrolment fees for those in need.

“We’re celebrating our five Kruger Big Assist regional winners who are all doing incredible work in their communities to make hockey more accessible and inclusive for all Canadians,” said Susan Irving, chief marketing officer of Kruger Products.

Since 2020, the Kruger Big Assist has supported at least 1,000 Canadian families and contributed over $800,000 to communities nationwide.

Canadians are invited to participate in the Kruger Big Assist by voting for the recipient of the additional $75,000 Grand Prize. The association with the most votes will receive the grant.

“The Kruger Big Assist isn’t just about giving; it’s about empowering communities and making a meaningful impact,” said Irving. “We’re excited to involve Canadians in selecting the Grand Prize winner, ensuring that their voices shape the future of hockey accessibility.”

Process to vote

From 5 p.m. on April 9 to 5 p.m. on April 11, Canadians can vote online for the association they believe deserves the Grand Prize. With one vote per person, the Grand Prize winner will be announced on April 16.

This year’s winning associations were chosen based on their efforts in four key categories: reaching needy families, inspiring youth, supporting life skill development, and promoting diversity and inclusion. The regional winners for the fourth season of the Kruger Big Assist include:

  • Fernie Minor Hockey Association – Fernie, B.C.
  • Whitecourt Minor Hockey Association – Whitecourt, Alta.
  • St. Catharines CYO Minor Hockey League – St. Catharines, Ont.
  • Beaujeu Minor Hockey Association – Napierville, Que.
  • TASA Minor Hockey Association – Upper Tantallon, N.S.
