Canada’s Weston family has retained its title as the richest family in Ireland, according to the 2017 Sunday Times Irish Rich List.
The list surveys the wealth of the 300 richest individuals and families on the island of Ireland in a variety of areas including entertainment, sport, business, technology and construction. The minimum wealth needed to qualify for this year’s list is €40m (C$56.7 million), according to a Business World article.
Galen and Hilary Weston (pictured) head a trans-Atlantic retail empire that includes household names such as Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, Heal’s, Primark, George Weston Ltd., Holt Renfrew, and the Loblaw supermarket chain.
The family’s business interests are reported to be valued at €12.353 billion (C$17.53 billion).
