FreshCo has been growing its store network as part of a multi-year expansion plan of the banner into Western Cananda that parent company Empire announced in 2017. At that time, Empire initiated a five-year plan to convert 25 per cent of its full-service Safeway and Sobeys locations to FreshCo stores. The 32,000 sq ft Red Deer, Alta. store, which opened earlier this year, is the 43rd FreshCo location in Western Canada. The new store includes a FreshCo pharmacy.
